Durgesh Kanwal is a professionally trained Percussionist specializing in Tabla and Darbuka. With a musical journey that began at the age of 11, Durgesh has studied classical Tabla under renowned Pandits Govind Chakraborty and Nirmal Mandal Ji. He has accompanied various music and dance forms like 'Kathak' and performed at music festivals across Europe.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Durgesh is actively involved in organizing Ethno India, a program by JM International. As one of the coordinators, he successfully organized the 2020 edition, bringing together over 30 musicians and 5 mentors. He also initiated the 'HOPE Sessions,' virtual tune-learning workshops that garnered participation from musicians around the world, creating a rich digital library of global songs/tunes.
Durgesh is the founder of 'Sabrang,' a project that showcases the beauty and soul of Indian traditional music and dance forms. The Sabrang group features skilled artists from diverse backgrounds, presenting a wide spectrum of art forms, including folk, traditional, and classical dance and music.
As a founding member of 'Indi Shala,' Durgesh, along with talented artists Prabhat Trivedi and Shivani Das, runs various music projects such as Drum Circles, Instruments making workshops, Music classes, and Instruments manufacturing. They have also provided free drum workshops to underprivileged children for the past 5 years, offering them a platform to showcase their talents and explore new possibilities with music.
